How the sessions work

Each session begins with a group warm-up, before players split into two levels:

  • New skaters
  • Players with some experience

The ice is divided to allow for level-specific coaching, helping every player progress at a pace that suits their current skill level.

This structure creates a more supportive learning environment and helps players build confidence as they continue to improve.

Development focus

Players work through four key skating foundations:

  • Stopping and control
  • Crossovers and edge work
  • Transitions
  • Backward skating

Sessions are designed to build confidence, improve skating technique, and create steady progress across the full term.

Applying skills on the ice

As players develop their skating foundations, they begin applying those skills through structured drills and game-based scenarios.

This helps players improve:

  • On-ice awareness
  • Control under movement
  • Decision-making
  • Confidence in hockey situations

By combining skill development with practical application, players build a stronger understanding of how hockey movement works in real play.

Progression through the program

Players are supported to move between groups as their skills improve throughout the term.

This allows the program to stay flexible and responsive, so each player continues to feel challenged while learning in an environment that matches their level.

Week 9 – Player review

Week 9 includes video analysis and coach feedback, giving players a clear picture of their progress and practical guidance for continued development.

This review helps players understand what they are doing well and where they can continue to improve.

Week 10 – Gameplay

The final session focuses on structured scrimmage and match-style play.

This gives players the chance to apply the skills they have developed throughout the term in a more realistic game environment, while still being supported through a structured session format.
