The Bauer Academy B.A
A New Phase of Performance and Development
Bauer Academy is entering an exciting new phase, with an enhanced high-performance structure designed to support athlete development and strengthen long-term pathway opportunities, including future overseas progression.
At the heart of Bauer Academy is a clear belief: Australian ice hockey players are capable of competing at the highest level of the sport. This updated structure has been developed to better support that vision by strengthening athlete development, expanding performance support, and creating more meaningful competitive opportunities.
Leadership Structure
As part of this next phase, Bauer Academy is pleased to welcome Damien as Head of Bauer Academy, overseeing the program's direction and continuing to build on the strong foundation already established.
Joey Hughes will move into the role of Head of Performance, with a focus on on-ice standards, athlete progression, and the continued development of performance expectations across the program.
This leadership structure creates stronger alignment between athlete development, performance, and long-term pathway planning.
Supporting the Complete Athlete
Over the coming months, Bauer Academy will progressively introduce additional performance resources to better support athlete growth and development.
These additions will include:
- Physiotherapy support
- Nutrition guidance
- Mental performance development
The mental performance component will focus on building resilience, confidence, and strong preparation habits. Together, these elements are designed to support the complete athlete and align the program more closely with high-performance environments.
Expanded Competitive Opportunities
Bauer Academy is also pleased to announce the introduction of a Bauer Academy Division 3 team competing in the VIHL for the upcoming winter season.
This team will provide athletes with:
- More structured competition
- Valuable game exposure
- A stronger connection between training and performance
- Further development within a team environment
This initiative forms an important part of the overall Bauer Academy pathway and helps prepare athletes for higher levels of hockey.
BA Selects Eligibility
To maintain consistency and uphold program standards, athletes seeking eligibility for BA Selects will now be required to participate in at least one Bauer Academy session per week.
This requirement ensures players remain actively engaged in the program and continue developing within the Bauer Academy structure.
Looking Ahead
Further updates will be shared over the coming weeks and months as Bauer Academy continues to evolve.
We are excited about the program's direction and the opportunities this structure will create for our athletes, both locally and internationally.
